{Dr. Sandra McCullen}
On behalf of the Curriculum and Instruction Department, I want to welcome you to the C&I Department webpage. I am Dr. Sandra McCullen, the WCPS Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

It is our district's mission that every student graduates from high school globally competitive for work and postsecondary education, prepared for life in the 21st Century through rigor, relevance and relationships. Our staff has spent countless hours studying and implementing various programs that will benefit our more than 19,300 students.

By working closely with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Wayne County Public Schools has been able to implement reform initiatives in our elementary, middle, and high grades. We have implemented the N.C. Ready Schools initiative in an effort to prepare students for Kindergarten. We have also introduced four very exciting high school reform initiatives, including the Wayne Early/Middle College High School, the Wayne School of Engineering, Freshman Academies, and Career Academies.

Wayne County Public Schools prides itself on being in the forefront of this exciting chapter in public education. Our C&I Department recognizes that for our schools to be successful in preparing students to succeed in the 21st Century, we must offer a balanced instructional program which includes research based strategies that promote a variety of thinking skills in all curriculum areas; 21st Century technology in the classroom; and teachers, administrators, school counselors, and support staff who are committed to helping students rise to their academic potential.

If you would like to learn more about our Curriculum & Instruction programs, I encourage you to take a few minutes to review the information under the "Instruction" tab, or click on C&I Directory.
