On Friday, May 15, the Wayne County Board of Education selected Dr. Michael Dunsmore as the new WCPS superintendent. Dr. Dunsmore, who has served as the Superintendent of Tyrrell County Schools since 2009, will be officially sworn on July 1, 2015.

WCPS has developed the following make-up plan for the February snow days:

Traditional Calendar
Make-Up Day 1: February 28
Make-Up Day 2: March 23
Make-Up Day 3: April 3
Make-Up Day 4: June 11
Make-Up Day 5: June 12

Three early release days, March 11, April 2
9, and May 13, have also been changed to full days in order to recover lost instructional time.

  • Community Eligibility Provision program: The following schools are participating in the CEP program during the 2014-15 school year: Brogden Middle, Brogden Primary, Carver Elementary, Carver Heights Elementary, Dillard Middle, Eastern Wayne Elementary, Fremont STARS Elementary, Goldsboro High, North Drive Elementary, School Street Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, and Wayne Academy. Applications for free or reduced lunch meals will not be distributed this year. All students attending one of these schools, regardless of family income, who wish to eat in the cafeteria, will now receive their meals at no cost.

  • Read to Achieve: K-3 parents can learn more about the North Carolina Read to Achieve law, which requires all students to become proficient readers by the end of third grade, by clicking on Read to Achieve.
