September Students of the Month Celebrations &
Red Ribbon Week with Follow your Dreams Career Day
From the Desk of the Principal...
Hello Dillard Middle School Students and Families,
We are moving forward with the 2013-2014 school year! Tiger Teamwork is evident in our hallways as students are learning procedures and routines and the school-wide Tiger ROAR expectations. Despite some scheduling issues with the new PowerSchool system, our students are enjoying the new elective schedule with the 2 electives periods each day. We are excited that the new Student Clubs are now in place and all Dillard Middle School students look forward each week to Friday Clubs. Be sure to talk with your child about their elective classes and their club!
Our first PTO night was October 1st. It was our Title I Parent Information Night and the 5th grade Parent Night. A big thank you to our PTO officers and to Ms. Linda Jones, our Parent Involvement Coordinator for making this night a success and an information session for all parents and families who were able to attend. The school chorus presented entertainment and the families were treated to a meal after the PTO meeting. Thank you to Ms. Ruffin for our choral presentations. Don't forget to join PTO...it is only $4.00 and the all of the monies are used to support student services and programs.
The WCPS system will be assessed this school year for continued accreditation. As part of the school systems' AdvancEd accreditation, each school will survey its staff, students and parents of students. Opportunities will be made available for interested parents to come to school to participate in this online survey. We welcome your input as we want to be the best school we can be. The AdvancEd visit for our school system is scheduled for March 2014 and Dillard may be one of the schools that is selected for a site visit.
A big thank you to our community who supports our athletic and arts programs. We are very proud of our soccer, volleyball and football teams. We are also very proud of our cheerleaders. All of our students are demonstrating school spirit....especially our 5th graders who won the Spirit Stick at our first Pep Rally! Our students' artistic abilities were demonstrated at the Wayne County Regional Fair! Our Dillard Middle School students won first and second place ribbons for their talents. Our theme this year is Teamwork...not just for the staff...but for everyone...Go Tigers!
We are more than halfway through the first grading period. Student progress reports have been sent home. If you have not received a progress report, please contact your child's teacher. All teachers have a planning period each day and are available for a parent conference. At Dillard Middle School we celebrate the 3 A's....Academics, Arts and Athletics. Your support is important in all areas so that our students can be successful.
As always...my door is open to you. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child's time with us at school, please contact me.
Thank you for being a part of our TEAM!
