STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
From the Desk of the Principal...
Welcome to Spring Time at Dillard Middle School!
The students and staff at Dillard Middle School are ready for Spring and the return to a regular schedule. We enjoyed the wintry days but now we know that the end of the school year is approximately 12 weeks away and we need to be in the "end-of-the-year" mindset. Student Progress Reports were sent home with students on Friday, March 6th. If your child did not share their Progress Report with you, then please contact your child's homeroom teacher and another one can be printed for you. The third quarter instructional period ends on March 27th and Student Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, April 3rd. Contact the school if you do not receive a Report Card for your child.
As stated above, we are ready for a return to regular schedule. The WCPS Traditional School Calendar was revised at the end of February. Please make sure that you are aware of the additional days added to the calendar as now the last day of this school year will be June 12, 2015.
Dillard Middle School is excited to welcome Mrs. Mary Kay James to our staff as an additional Assistant Principal for the remainder of this school year. Mrs. James is a retired WCPS Administrator. She is at our school as a part-time administrator and she is already busy with students and teachers. We also welcome Officer Alvino Daniels as our full-time police officer. Officer Daniels is busy with learning the skills of a School Resource Officer and he is a needed support to ensure safety and protocol in our school. We welcome you to Tiger Land.
Our Dillard Tigers are busy into their Baseball and Girl's Soccer schedules. Come and support our teams. Go Tigers!
Dillard Middle School will host the WCPS All-County Band rehearsal and perfomance on March 25th and 26th. The community performance is Thursday, March 26th at 7:00 p.m. Come and support our very talented Dillard Middle School students and others from the school system.
All Dillard Middle School students are preparing for our school-level Science Fair. On March 31st, 5th and 6th grade student teams will present their Science projects to the school. On April 2nd, 7th and 8th grade student teams will present their Science projects to the school. Science projects will be judged and awards will be given. The staff and the community are busy supporting our students' efforts and engagement into the Science curriculum
Warmer weather is here and students are being reminded that our school follows the WCPS Standard Dress Code policy established by our Board of Education. All students are expected to follow this policy. Girls are being reminded that skirts, dresses and shorts cannot be more than 3 inches above the knee. Sleeveless shirts and tops are not acceptable and shirts and tops must cover the midriff area at all times (sitting and standing). Dillard Middle School adminstration and faculty are expected to support BOE policies at all times. We need the support of students and their families to ensure that this policy as written and adopted is followed. If you have any questions, please contact school adminstration or review Policy 4305 under School Policies which can be accessed on the WCPS home page. Additionally, no headwear (hats, caps, hoods, kerchiefs, curlers, seatbands, etc.) or sunglasses can be worn inside the school buildings.
Make plans to attend the next Parent Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th at 11:00 a.m. The topic of this parent workshop will be Bullying and will be facilitated by Ms. Sue Stevens. Please make plans to join us in the Media Center on this day.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's time at school, please make contact with us. We are determined to create an educational environment that is safe, supportive and encouraging for all.
