Wayne County Public Schools is the 21st largest school district in the state of North Carolina with 31 schools and over 19,000 students. Our school district employs approximately 3,000 people annually, making us the second largest employer in Wayne County. Our employees range from teachers and administrators, to technology specialists, media coordinators, maintenance and operation personnel, child nutritionists, bus drivers and transportation personnel, cafeteria workers, and custodians.
Wayne County is located just one hour southeast of Raleigh, and about two hours to the pristine beaches that stretch the length of the Tar Heel Coast. The Great Smoky Mountains, America’s most visited national park, is less than 6 hours away. Wayne County is known for its rich Civil War history, delicious barbecue pork, and famous Mount Olive Pickles. One of the biggest perks of living in Wayne County is that restaurants, shopping, performing arts, and even our manicured golf courses offer residents the advantages of big city living, but without the hassles. Wayne County's slower pace is ideal for raising families.
Because Wayne County is home to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, many Air Force retirees from all over the country return to Wayne County to make it their permanent home. If you make Wayne County your home, you too will also find why Eastern North Carolina is a great place to live and work!
Thank you for your interest in Wayne County Public Schools. Please search our website for vacancies and contact the principal of the school where the vacancies are listed to set up an interview. This is where the process starts.
