2019-2020 Scholarship Opportunities

UNC Chapel Hill Thomas Wolfe Scholarship - this scholarship seeks to identify and reward students with exceptionally focused literary ability and promise.  Applicants must apply early admission by October 15th and must also apply to The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship by the deadline of November 15th, 2019 (submissions must be electronically submitted by that date).  The award will be based largely on written work submitted by candidates. Artistic merit is the chief criterion of selection. Students who write poetry, fiction, plays, literary non-fiction (personal narratives, memoir, travel and nature essays, literary journalism, belles-lettres) are eligible. Multiple genre submissions are also encouraged. Submissions are limited to one application per student. The application process requires the submission of up to fifty (50) pages in prose, forty (40) pages in poetry, or sixty (60) in play writing, in English. Students submitting work in MULTIPLE GENRES should submit between 50 60 pages of original work. In addition to completing the application, candidates will submit a five-hundred-word personal essay entitled “Why I Write.” Interested candidates should visit: 


ELKS Most Valuable Student Scholarship...this scholarship is open to all seniors who are US citizens and who demonstrate scholarship (outstanding academics), leadership and financial need.  Scholarship opportunities range in value from $1,000-$12,500 per year.  This application is online at elks.org (click on MVS application).  Deadline is 11/5/19.
The ELKS Foundation also has a nursing scholarship for those students pursuing a nursing degree. Students must be accepted at a school in NC with plans to enroll in a nursing program.  Interested students should see Ms. Loury for an application. Deadline is December 8th.
NC State Park Scholarship:  This is NC State's signature scholarship. Its mission is to bring exceptional students to NC State, based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.   This is an extremely competitive  four-year scholarship valued at up to $111,000 for in-state applicants.   Approximately 40 scholarships will be awarded this year to outstanding entering freshmen for undergraduate study in any discipline at NC State. Emmet and Mary Robinson Scholarship - This scholarship is open to seniors in Wayne County planning to pursue a degree in nursing, medicine, agriculture or ministry in the Presbyterian or Episcopal Churches.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must have outstanding character qualities and demonstrate financial need.  Interested students apply online at"  www.csascholars.org/erobinson.  Deadline is March 1st.
Lenoir-Rhyne University.  They have a Teaching Scholars Program.  The program offers incoming freshmen $5500 each year for four years in addition to other financial aid received.  Want to learn more?  Go to:  lr.edu/TeachingScholars.
Coca Cola Scholars Program:  The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities.  150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. NC Hispanic Scholarship Fund:  The NCSHP established this charitable fund at Triangle Community Foundation to benefit Hispanic students in North Carolina. The North Carolina Hispanic College Fund awards annual scholarships worth between $500 and $2,500 to help students who desire to attend college pay for their education.  Scholarships recipients are recent graduates of North Carolina high schools who are of Hispanic/Latino background.  Recipients of a NC Hispanic College Fund scholarship must enroll in a degree program at a community college or a 2 or 4 year college/university and be committed to public service and community development. UNCF (United Negro College Fund) UNCF is the nation’s largest private scholarship provider to minority (mostly African-American) group members. Each year, they award more than $100 million in scholarships to more than 10,000 students at more than 1,100 schools across the country, including their prestigious network of 37 HBCUs.  Look for and apply for scholarships at:  https://www.uncf.org/scholarships  
Golden Door Scholars Program: The Golden Door Scholars Award is available to undocumented students, and students with DACA and TPS status. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Strong preference will be given to students who plan to concentrate their studies in computer science, technology, data science, mathematics, or related fields.  Apply at:   
Do you work at Chic-Fil-A?  The Chick-Fil-A True Inspiration Scholarship and Chic-Fil-A Leadership Scholarship are available to Chick-Fil-A team members who are or intend to be current post-secondary undergraduate or graduate students. Greenhouse Scholars Program:  The Greenhouse Scholars Program is open to high school seniors in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, and North Carolina. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate a strong interest and commitment to the community to be considered for this award. AXA Achievement Scholarship:  The AXA Achievement Scholarship is available to high school seniors who plan to enroll full - time at an accredited two - or four - year college or university.
