Step 1. Please complete an application online at nc.teachermatch.org
Step 2. There are additional documents attached to the application that you can print, complete and bring to the Human Resources office located at 2001 E. Royall Ave., Goldsboro, NC . Once the additional documents have been received, you will be given a substitute verification form to
enroll in Effective Teacher Training I course at Wayne Community College.
Step 3. Please go to Wayne Community College Continuing Education (Walnut Building, East Entrance) to register and pay for the course. The
course is $70.00. Please register no later than 24 hours prior to course.
Step 4. Once you have completed Effective Teacher Training please submit
certificate to Shelvia Yelverton at the WCPS Central Office.
Note: If you have a current teaching license or three or more years at a
public or private school as a teacher assistant, you will NOT have to take Effective Teacher Training, but you will need to complete SmartFind
Training to secure a substitute teacher position.

passion for helping children grow academically, then we would like to
help you take your place at the head of the class. Wayne County Public
Schools is looking for motivated individuals, with a minimum of 48 college hours or a two year associate degree,
and can maintain classroom instruction while the teacher is away. New
WCPS Substitute Teachers are required to attend Effective Teacher
Training, unless you already have an active North Carolina teaching
license (please see note at the bottom).

What is Effective Teacher Training?
There is a 24-hour course, co sponsored by Wayne County Public Schools
and Wayne Community College, which is required for all substitute
teacher applicants. The course will provide practical training in five
critical skill areas that include planning, instruction, behavior
management, human relations, and professional growth. Applicants will
also be introduced to WCPS policies and procedures.
