K-5 Mathematics Overview

K-5 Mathematics Overview

Wayne County Public Schools is committed to three concepts for our students: rigor, relevance, and relationships. We believe if we strive to achieve all three domains our students will achieve all their future goals.   Rigor-our staff holds a high standard of expectations for every student.   Relevance- refers to learning in which students apply core knowledge, concepts or skills, to solve real-world problems. Relationships- a particular type of connection existing between the staff and the student.

In Kindergarten through grade 5 mathematics, the standards lay a solid foundation in whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals. Taken together, these elements support a student’s ability to learn and apply more demanding mathematics concepts and procedures in middle and high school.
