“We look forward to the opportunity to welcome families and offer them the opportunity to enroll their child in school for the upcoming school year,” states Dr. Carol Artis, Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction and Federal Programs. “Enrolling a child in Kindergarten is always an exciting time for a family. We highly encourage parents or guardians to bring their child with them to Kindergarten Registration Day to meet with teachers and school staff. Families can also pick up and complete any required paperwork.”

A child must be five years old on or before August 31 to register for kindergarten for the coming year. Parents/Legal guardians must present an official birth certificate and immunization records to school officials. Birth certificates may be obtained from the Register of Deeds office in the county of the child’s birth.

Parents/guardians must also show “proof of residence.”

If needed, parents/legal guardians will be given a health assessment form during registration which must be completed by the family physician and returned to the school by the first day of classes on Monday, August 27.

Parents/guardians can go to the district website at to see a complete list of enrollment requirements, as well as find the school their child will attend.

Anyone unable to register their child on the designated day is encouraged to contact the school in their attendance area. Parents/guardians unsure of the school their child will attend should call the district administrative offices at 919-731-5900, stop by the administrative offices at 2001 East Royall Avenue, or go to the district website at

Students currently enrolled in Kindergarten will not attend school on Friday, April 20, which will count as a vacation day for these students.
