As WCPS Principal of the Year, Mrs. Wynn received a local $1,500 award and will represent the district in the regional Principal of the Year program, and possibly the state competition next spring.

“Mrs. Wynn is dynamic, highly professional, and well respected as a school administrator by her colleagues and school community,” states Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS Superintendent. “Wayne County Public Schools wishes her the very best in the next stage of the Principal of the Year program.”

In addition to selecting the district’s Principal of the Year, the Human Resources Department and the WCPAPA named Carver Elementary assistant principal, Maguy Yancey, the WCPS 2017 Assistant Principal of the Year. Since 2007, the district’s WCPAPA has given this award to locally recognize an outstanding assistant principal who has proven themselves as hard working, dedicated to meeting student needs, and as someone who goes above and beyond what is required of them. As WCPS Assistant Principal of the Year, Mrs. Yancey will receive a local $1,000 award.

“Mrs. Yancey is an outstanding assistant principal,” adds Dr. Dunsmore. “As a school administrator, she regularly demonstrates passion and dedication to help bring out the best in her school. We congratulate her on this achievement.”

The district-level 2017-18 Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year programs utilized new selection processes, modeled after the Teacher of the Year program, to highlight the top principals and assistant principals in the district. Essentially, finalists were determined by the WCPAPA members. Each finalist had to submit a professional portfolio, and be interviewed by a selection committee. The WCPS Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year were selected from each set of finalists.

Both Mrs. Wynn and Mrs. Yancey will be officially recognized at the Wayne County Board of Education Meeting on October 2.
