WCPS launches new & redesigned mobile app
On Wednesday, February 27, the district officially launched its new mobile app at its monthly Principal’s Meeting. The Wayne County Public Schools app, now available in Apple iTunes and the Google Play Store, has been redesigned to help better enable parents, staff, students and the broader community to stay connected and to receive the information they want directly from their mobile device.
“We are encouraging those who downloaded the district’s previous app to uninstall it,” states Ken Derksen, Communications & Public Relations Officer. “Those who install our new app will find it to be more user-friendly and redesigned with our school community in mind. Students and staff can easily access important school related resources. Parents using the app will also be able to quickly access lunch menus, news, electronic flyers, and events calendars for their child’s school.”
One of the most popular benefits of the mobile app is its ability for users to receive district notifications on their mobile device.
“Those who enable notifications will be notified about weather delays, closures, and other important announcements immediately after they are made,” adds Mr. Derksen.
The app was developed in partnership with eSchoolView, the district’s current webhosting and automated call system provider. District administrators say the app is one more tool that the school district can utilize to engage stakeholders.
“By giving our parents, staff and the general public a greater variety of options for how information can be received, Wayne County Public Schools is better able to create a stronger, more connected school community overall,” adds Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS Superintendent.
The app launch event was held at the district’s administrative offices. District leaders and school principals were among the first to install the newly redesigned app.
