Eastern Wayne Middle School Parent and Family Engagement Policy

2018-2019

Eastern Wayne Middle School adheres to the philosophy that parental engagement is essential in the total teaching and learning process of children.  An Annual Title I public meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on September 18th to discuss our school wide project, federal regulations, and requirements as it relates to our Title I program and parents’ rights to be involved.  School-Parent Compact Agreements will be sent home at the beginning of the year that outlines how parents, school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved students’ achievement

Eastern Wayne Middle School provides the following parental engagement activities:

=         Parent Resource Center, located at the rear of the media center, equipped with a variety of curricular materials available for

checkout.  As more materials are added, notification will be sent home to all parents.

=         Curriculum nights for each grade level

=         Parent Workshops and Seminars will be offered through WCPS

=         Eastern Wayne Middle School Parent Advisory Council

=         Eastern Wayne Middle School Athletic Booster Club

=         School Leadership Team with our Student Class President and a Parent Member

=         Chaperone on our class or grade level field trips

=         Classroom Volunteering

=         Progress Reports go home every 3-weeks; Report Cards each 9-weeks

=         Volunteer/Chaperone for the school dances in September, October, December, February, March, and April

=         Remind 101 – Text reminders for parents and students about homework, quizzes, tests, reminders

=         Monthly Newsletters

=         Box Tops for Education – Collect and turn into the school – Proceeds go to the school

=         Home/school communications through website, phone app, handbooks, newsletters, progress reports, etc.

=         Proctor during North Carolina End of Grade Tests each May

PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW STATEMENT

As required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Title I Part A, information is available at your child’s school including, but not limited, to the following:

1.  The School Improvement Plan

2.  Qualifications of your child’s teacher:

  • Whether the North Carolina Department of Education has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
  • Whether the North Carolina Department of Education has decided that the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.
  • The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees.
  • Whether any instructional assistants or similar paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

3.  Professional development opportunities for teachers and instructional assistants to ensure highly effective personnel.
