WCPS to Close On Fridays During Summer
With all of the district’s students officially out for the summer and teacher workdays now coming to a close, Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) will begin its annual summer flex schedule on Monday. From June 18 through August 10, the district will operate on a 10-hour day/four-day workweek. The entire district will be closed on Fridays.
The WCPS Administrative Offices and all schools on the Traditional Academic Calendar will be open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The three schools that operate on the Non-Traditional Academic Calendar [Goldsboro High, Wayne Early/Middle College High School, and Wayne School of Engineering] will follow the same hourly schedule. However, their dates for the four-day workweek are May 29 through July 27.
The district began implementing a flex schedule with four-day/40-hour workweeks in 2006 to cut operation expenses over the summer months. In addition to being closed on Fridays, the district will also be closed Wednesday, July 4, to observe the Fourth of July holiday.
