WCPS to hold district-wide Science Fair

On Saturday, January 12, Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) will hold its annual district-wide Science Fair in the Goldsboro High media center for students who have competed in and won local Science Fairs held at their individual schools.

The district-wide Science Fair will have a K-2 classroom division, a 3-5 division, a middle school division, and a high school division.  Middle and high school divisions will be divided into Biological Science A, Biological Science B, Chemistry, Earth/Environmental Science, Physics & Astronomy, Technology, and Engineering. An “On-The-Spot Poster Making Contest” will allow pairs of student-contestants to create a thematic poster on-site for judging. Posters can be completed using freehand or digital art.

As an extension of the classroom, Science Fair competitions allow students an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and interests in the vast and diverse field of science. The preparation that goes into making a science project successful also helps students build skills in other areas, including: learning how to research online & use library resources, performing science experiments, using math to calculate results, and using English skills to document experimental findings for their exhibits.

For those WCPS students whose project stands out, thirteen will have the opportunity to move on to the Regional Science Fair competition on February 16 at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The schedule for the district-wide Science Fair is as follows:
