WCPS Names 2019-2020 Instructional Assistant of the Year
Edgewood Community Developmental School instructional assistant, Leslie Capers, has been selected as the Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) 2019-2020 Instructional Assistant of the Year. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon at the annual Instructional Assistant of the Year Recognition Ceremony held at the WCPS Professional Development & Family Engagement Center.

Mr. Capers has served as an instructional assistant for the past 12 years. As part of his education philosophy, he believes that the classroom should serve as a community that fosters both life-learning and academic achievement.

“If the curriculum is presented with these two goals in mind, our students will gain both knowledge and the experience needed to lead them to success.” states Mr. Capers.

Mr. Capers joined education after completing 22 years of military service. As the WCPS 2019-2020 Instructional Assistant of the Year, Mr. Capers will receive a $500 check.

“Mr. Capers strives to meet the individual educational needs of all students,” states Dr. Yvette Smith Mason, WCPS Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Professional Development. “We are pleased to recognize him for his valuable service as an instructional assistant and for the many supports he provides to teachers and students at his school.”
