WCPS Awarded District Re-Accreditation
Accreditation logoThis week, Wayne County Public Schools officially learned that it has been awarded re-accreditation by the North Central Association Commissioner on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commissioner on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI).

“Our schools are working hard to deliver quality instruction, meet students where they are at, and continuously strive for systematic and continued improvement,” states Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS superintendent. “Having earned this re-accreditation, which is recognized throughout the world, affirms the work going on each and every day in our classrooms.”

In March, a review team made up of current educators in districts across the state and nation came to Wayne County Public Schools to conduct a quality assurance review. During their four day review, the team visited schools and interviewed more than 200 stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, administrators, Board of Education members, and business partners.

“This team visited multiple schools and observed firsthand how teaching and learning took place in our classrooms,” states Dr. Marcia Manning, Executive Director of Student Support Services & Innovative Programs. “In addition to conducting interviews and classroom observations, the team spent several weeks leading up to the review studying data and other key indicators to better understand how our schools are meeting the performance standards and expectations as part of our improvement journey.”

Specifically, the team examined the district’s systems and processes in relation to the three new AdvancED Performance Standards (Leadership Capacity, Learning Capacity, and Resource Capacity) and School/System Quality Factors (Clear Direction, Healthy Culture, High Expectations, Impact of Instruction, Resource Management, Efficacy of Engagement, and Implementation Capacity.)
