First Public Information Session to be held as part of countywide redistricting efforts
On Tuesday, June 18, Cropper GIS will hold its first public information session to help inform families and the community about the county-wide redistricting process that Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) is undertaking. The session will be held at 6 PM in the Wayne Community College Moffatt Auditorium.

“This session is intended to share more information about the overall process, criteria, timeline, and rezoning objectives,” states Dr. David Lewis, WCPS Assistant Superintendent. “This is the first of two public information sessions being held this summer. We would certainly encourage interested families and community members to attend the sessions in order to become informed and active participants in this process.”

To ensure families, the community, and the greater public have access to the information being shared, the Public Information Session will be videotaped and replayed on Spectrum Channel 18 beginning the following Friday (June 21) at 8 PM. The video along with any presentation materials will also be posted on the district’s website, www.waynecountyschools.org.

Background:
On February 25, 2019, the Wayne County Board of Education took a historic step towards countywide redistricting by unanimously approving an Attendance Zone Rezoning proposal from Cropper GIS Consultants and McKibben Demographic Research. Work began this spring with the collection, analysis, and assimilation of data. Over the course of the summer a number of planning team meetings will be held.

In August, Cropper GIS will hold its second Public Information Session. There, redistricting options will be presented to the community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share feedback and ask questions. This fall, WCPS hopes that final planning meetings will occur and final recommendations from Cropper GIS Consultants and McKibben Demographic Research can be presented to the Board of Education for its consideration.
