  • Volunteer of the Year

    On Thursday, April 25, WCPS presented its 2012-13 “Terry Eugene Pilkington Volunteer of the Year Award” to Daniel Weeks, a Goldsboro High School volunteer, during a district reception held at North Drive Elementary School. Officials also honored three of its top business partners.

  • Gates Scholar

    Southern Wayne High graduating senior, Santos Saldivar, will no longer have to worry about the cost to earn a college degree. Thanks to the United Negro College Fund’s Gates Millennium Scholarship (GMS) program, this Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) student can earn an undergraduate degree, as well as a graduate and doctoral degree if he chooses, at no cost to him or his family.

  • Assistant Superintendent Announcement

    On Tuesday, April 23, Dr. Craig McFadden announced his retirement as WCPS Assistant Superintendent for Accountability and Student Services. The 38-year veteran educator’s last official day of employment will be June 30, 2013.

  • Kindergarten Registration

    WCPS will hold its Kindergarten Registration Day, Friday, April 26, at all 15 elementary schools. Registration will last from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at nearly all schools. Spring Creek Elementary will hold its event from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    WCPS will hold its 12th Annual Academically and Intellectually Gifted Program EXPO on Thursday, April 25. The EXPO will highlight various services offered to students who have been identified as academically/intellectually gifted.
