Elective - Band: RICHARDSON, Daryl

Middle School band is a great way for a student to learn the fundamentals of reading music which is what drives our band program.  Reading music is the main focus of this course and by doing that learning the actual  instrument becomes less demanding.  Students are required to purchase or rent an instrument that is suggested by the director.  At this time I am not accepting any percussion or drummers, only wind instruments.  Students should come to class everyday with their instruments, method books and any sheet music that has been passed out.  If a student forgets their instrument they should come to class with pencil and paper to do an essay on their instrument or music definitions. This does not completely substitute for missing a day of learning .
Grades are earned by 65% participation, 25% practice, 10% behavior. During remote learning days students will be instructed using various online music platforms. Canvas and smart music will be utilized as well as dojo.
Essential Elements book 1 and 2 are available for purchase at Redphish music and Fat Cat music as well as reeds and other cleaning supplies for your instrument.  The band uniform for concerts is the black band polo, black dress slacks and black dress shoes, no sneakers.  I will continue to update this page.
                                                                 Sincerely, Mr. Richardson
