NC Pre-Kindergarten Program

Note: Children must be 4 years old by August 31 of the year in which they intend to apply for NC Pre-K.

NC Pre-K focuses on providing a valuable educational experience to 4-year-old children who may not otherwise be served. ALL children of active duty military families meeting other eligibility requirements are served through this state-funded program. Specific eligibility information and program details can be found at the Partnership for Children of Wayne County.

Pre-kindergarten is a research-proven strategy for school readiness. Children served by NC Pre-K attend a full school day, full school year program that meets high-quality state standards. The community-based program is integrated with other early childhood programs in the community and administered at the county or regional level. Children participating in NC Pre-K may be served in classrooms in the public schools, licensed child care centers or Head Start programs.
