Eastern Wayne High School Parent Teacher Support Group (PTSG)
EWHS PTSG EXECUTIVE OFFICERS 2019 – 2020:
President: Martha McMillan-Guthrie – [email protected]
Vice-President: Cindy Weeks
Treasurer: Dianne Uzzell
Secretary: Amy Scott – [email protected]
The purpose of the PTSG is to improve the educational environment at Eastern Wayne High School (EWHS). We strive to address those areas of concern to the parents of EWHS students in a manner that will improve the educational process and experience for all. Any parent or guardian of a EWHS student is eligible and encouraged to join the general membership of PTSG. Annual dues are $5.00. There are two meetings each school year for the general membership – one in the fall during College Night (sponsored by PTSG) and one in the spring during the Spring Concert. Executive Board membership is by application and includes hospitality dues of $10.
The Executive Board is in need of willing volunteers, so all interested should send an email to the President ([email protected]). PTSG finances its endeavors through both membership dues and various fundraisers during the school year. These fundraisers vary from year to year, but in the recent past have included a raffle for a Yeti cooler in the fall and golf tournament at Walnut Creek Country Club in the spring. Other fundraising activities will be listed on the PTSG section of EWHS’s website. The proceeds of our fundraisers allow the PTSG to sponsor and fund several activities to further our purpose of educational improvement.
Some of the events we fund and/or sponsor include the following:
Senior Picnic – A cookout on the football field in late May following the Senior Walk to Eastern Wayne Elementary.
Students of the Month – An honor bestowed on students in any grade, selected by teachers.
College Night – the first of two meetings for the general membership of the PTSG, this fall event allows many different colleges and universities to showcase their programs in an effort to recruit new students. All students and parents are welcome to attend but will be particularly useful to juniors and seniors. Representatives from the colleges and universities will be available to answer questions about admissions, classes and courses of study, housing, scholarships, and financial aid, among other areas of interest.
Warrior Academic Scholars – A program to reward students for maintaining at least a B in all classes, and who also have six or fewer unexcused absences.
Campus Beautification – Flowers are only a small part of this effort. We have helped provide picnic tables and benches outside the cafeteria, as well as provided signs for buildings.
Warrior Parking Space Design Contest – Students with parking permits have the opportunity to design and paint their parking space for the school year, making the space truly “their own”. More information about this opportunity can be found with the parking permit information under Services.
Teacher Mini Grants – All teachers at EWHS are eligible to apply for mini grants, which are awarded throughout the school year. The mini grant program allows the PTSG to support the faculty in the classroom by providing funding for supplemental materials, lab supplies, art and music supplies, computer software/applications, study guides, practice tests, and other educational items not otherwise available due to budget constraints. Mini grants have a maximum value of $200 per teacher, per request. There is no limit to how many grants a teacher may request and/or receive during the school year. The application for the Teacher Mini Grants can be accessed here and contains all information needed for submission to the PTSG for consideration: See Download below.
Other events include but are not limited to honoring Teachers of the Month, sponsoring Teacher Appreciation Week and hosting the Fall Faculty Dinner. MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION: If you are interested in joining the PTSG’s general membership or Executive Board, please contact the President at [email protected] We would love to have more volunteers to help make Eastern Wayne High School the best school for our students.
