Scholarships & Grants for Military Dependents


Application due dates vary. Please view the website or contact the organization for more information. 

OCSC/ESC Scholarships: Seymour Johnson spouses' clubs join efforts and award scholarships annually to high school seniors, undergraduates, and military spouses. Deadline is typically at the beginning of March. School Counselors have applications available.

Corvias Foundation: $50,000 scholarship over four years. Open to graduating HS seniors with minimum 3.0 GPA who will attend a four-year institution. Visit the website for further eligibility details.

Thanks USA Scholarships: Applications accepted annually April 1 through May 15. Visit the website for details.

Scott Berkeley Air Force Association Scholarship: This is the local chapter of the AFA. Deadline is typically in mid-March. Contact SJAFB School Liaison at 919.722.5810 for scholarship information. School Counselors have applications available.

Scholarships for Military Children: This program was created by the Defense Commissary Agency to recognize the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. For eligibility and application information, visit the website. Applications are typically available in December and due in early February.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program : $500 - $4000 grants to selected sons and daughters of active duty, Title 10 AGR/Reserve, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired reserve and deceased Air Force members for their undergraduate studies.

Military Officers Association of America: Includes a variety of scholarship and grant programs. 

Air Force Sergeants Association: Various scholarships available at the website.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund: For dependent child of an active duty service member who was killed or permanently disabled (100% rating) as the result of an operational mission or training accident, or who is currently certified as POW or MIA. The applicant must also be a senior in high school, a high school graduate, or enrolled in an institution of higher learning, including colleges, universities, or vocational schools.

NC Veterans Affairs Scholarship: You may be eligible if you meet one of the following criteria: your father was a resident of North Carolina when he entered the service; you are a child of a disabled, deceased, or POW/MIA war veteran; you are a lifelong resident of North Carolina. Military.com: This website offers much information for military members and families.

Post-9/11 GI Bill: Post-9/11 GI Bill went into effect August 1, 2011. Education benefits include: certain National Guard members who were mobilized will now be eligible; up to 100% tuition & fee coverage; monthly living/housing stipend; up to $1000 per year for books/supplies; one-time relocation allowance; and the option to transfer benefits to family members.

Military Education Scholarships: Scholarships for a surviving child of a deceased service member or a deceased Veteran of the U.S. Military.

MilitaryOneSource: Website lists a variety of military student college scholarships and information.  

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation: For children of US Marine or Navy active duty, reserve, received an honorable discharge/medical discharge, or killed while serving in the Corps. Annual deadline is around March 1. 

Army Scholarship Foundation: For children of US Army active duty, active duty reserve, active duty National Guard, received an honorable discharge/medical discharge, or killed while serving in the Army. Eligibility requirements and applications are available at the foundation's website.

Army Emergency Relief's Scholarship Program: For dependent children of active, retired and deceased soldiers. Scholarships are based on financial need, academics, and leadership/achievement for each academic year. Annual deadline is around April 2. 

Army Aviation Association Scholarship Foundation: Scholarships and interest-free loans awarded to unmarried children & grandchildren of current and deceased members. Annual deadline is May 1. 

Special Operations Warrior Foundation: Provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families. 

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation: Providing college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in combat or accidents. Visit website for enrollment process. 

ROTC Scholarships: ROTC Scholarships can be a great way to pay for college and serve America. ROTC programs are available at over 1,000 colleges and universities. For information about the programs available (Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Reserve/Guard), visit the Military.com website .
