Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) is a federally funded program that provides financial assistance to local school districts and schools. These funds are used to assist in meeting the needs of educationally at-risk students. The goal of Title I is to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students identified as failing or most at risk of failing North Carolina’s performance standards in mathematics and reading. Schools qualify for Title I services based on academic need.
Title I programs generally offer:
- Smaller classes or special instructional spaces
- Opportunities for professional development for school staff
- Tutors for additional classroom support
- Technology that increases student interaction
- A variety of supplementary teaching methods
