ART

My journey at Edgewood began 33 years ago when my son was enrolled in the preschool program.  I volunteered with a very active parent group for four years until his transition out.  I was then hired to work in preschool as an instructional assistant for seven years.  My principal, at the time, offered me the opportunity to instruct art for the entire school which has led to 21 years of amazing experiences.  With all the modifications required to make art successful,  we have learned and taught together.  Our unique pieces are displayed throughout the school to be used for proms, holiday programs and for simple eye catchers in the front display window.  We also adorn the community, such as State Employee Credit Union, Central Services and the Berkeley Mall Exhibit.  We participate in Wayne Collection and Superintendent Art Choice.  Often we participate in card making for veterans, Meals On Wheels and wherever there is a need.  Our lessons are 30 minutes short once a week.  We begin by going over schoolwide rules, instructions, creating and free choice activities when there is time.  We end with each student being celebrated with their personal paint brush adhered to an "I shined in art" board.  We also follow social distancing guidelines and each student has their own art materials in a zip lock bag.  Instructing art to our population remains a passion of mine. I thank the families for the opportunity to work with your child.
