Hello to our Norwayne Middle School family. My name is Darlene Smith. I am currently beginning my third year as an Assistant Principal at Norwayne. Prior to being an Assistant Principal, I served as an Instructional Coach for two years and I have 24 years of experience in the classroom. I have taught 4 th grade, 6 th grade, and 7 th grade Math. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Barton College and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner Webb University. I have served the Norwayne community for the last 22 years and the Northwest community for the first 6 years of my career.

On a personal note, I am blessed with an amazing husband of 40 years and 2 children –ages 38 and 32. My son and daughter are both married with wonderful careers of their own and I have one grandson, who calls me, “Pumpkin.” My family is my world and I take great pride in the closeness that we share.

I look forward to serving our Norwayne families, students, staff, and community. Thank you for allowing me to work with your children.
