WCPS Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher Named

Greenwood Middle mathematics teacher, Robin Bryant, was named the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) 2021 Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher of the Year for Wayne County Public Schools. She was recognized Monday evening by the Wayne County Board of Education for her achievement.
 
“The purpose of the NCCTM and NCDPI Outstanding Mathematics Program is to recognize mathematics teachers who exemplify mathematics teaching excellence by nurturing students’ enthusiasm for mathematics through everyday classroom experiences,” states Andrew Bass, WCPS Math Coordinator. “We congratulate Ms. Bryant for this achievement and for all that she does to help support her school and our district in strengthening students in the area of mathematics.”
 
Ms. Bryant currently teaches eighth grade math at Greenwood Middle School. She serves her school as the beginning teacher mentor and chairperson for the mathematics department. Ms. Bryant leads Learning Labs for Wayne County Public School’s beginning teachers as well as offers her classroom for observations for teachers from across the district. Through these observations, she is able to model effective mathematics instruction and offer support and guidance for these teachers. Additionally, Ms. Bryant serves as the Super Core Facilitator for eighth grade where she provides professional development and collaborates with other eighth grade math teachers from across Wayne County Public Schools.
 
As Wayne County’s 2021 Outstanding Secondary Math Teacher, Ms. Bryant will be recognized at the annual NCCTM Conference to be held later this year. Ms. Bryant will also receive a one-year membership in the NCCTM and a personalized award.
