North Drive Elementary Parent and Family Engagement Policy

NDE adheres to the philosophy that parental engagement is essential in the total teaching and learning process of children. Our School Parent and Family Engagement Policy shall be developed jointly with, agreed upon with, and distributed to parents/family members. An Annual Title I public meeting will be held at Some Time in September to discuss our school wide project, federal regulations, and requirements as it relates to our Title I program and parents’ rights to be involved. School-Parent Compact Agreements will be sent home at the beginning of the year that outlines how parents, school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved students’ achievement.
North Drive Elelmentary provides the following parental engagement activities:
Parent Resource Center, located in Media Center is equipped with materials (books, kits, games, etc.) that parents may check out to use with their child.
Parent Workshops and Seminars offered throughout the year
Curriculum night events for each grade level to explain our policies, curriculum, and classroom expectations
Classroom and School Volunteer Program
NDE’s Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO)
NDE’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
Wayne County Schools Advisory Council
Inclusion of Selected Parents on School Improvement Teams and Committees
NDE’s Report Card sent home annually
Home/school communications through school website, student handbook, newsletters, progress reports, etc.
Provide information in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand

PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW STATEMENT
As required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Title I Part A, information is available at your child’s school including, but not limited, to the following:
1. The School Improvement Plan
2. Qualifications of your child’s teacher and instructional assistant:
If the teacher met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction
If the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status per state qualification or licensing standards
If the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher
Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and if so, their qualifications
3. Timely notice that the student has been assigned, or taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not
meet applicable state certification or licensure requirements
4. Professional development opportunities for teachers and instructional assistants to ensure highly effective personnel.
5. Information regarding state and local testing policy; information regarding student participation in any mandated
assessments, including a procedure or parental right to opt the child out of such assessment
6. Information on required assessments
7. Opportunities for parent engagement and input
8. The Wayne County Public Schools’ Improvement Plan
