This week, Superintendent Marc Whichard announced the following administrative change:
Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS), Director of Teaching & Learning, Lisa Tart, was appointed Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction. She is replacing Dr. Carol Artis, who has resigned and is retiring. Mrs. Tart is a veteran educator and administrator - with over 30 years of education experience in the classroom, the principal's office, and at Central Services.
“Mrs. Tart has a strong background in curriculum and instruction and is highly equipped to oversee the district’s educational programming during this period of transition,” states Dr. Whichard. “The Curriculum and Instruction Department has a vital role in supporting our schools, the education mission of our district, and the efforts underway to improve student achievement. Mrs. Tart’s experience will be invaluable as her team continues the critical work around teaching and learning during this period of transition."
Mrs. Tart holds certification in middle grades social studies and language arts. She is also a certified Curriculum Instructional Specialist and School Administrator. It is worth noting that Mrs. Tart is a former WCPS Principal of the Year, Southeastern Regional Principal of the Year, and a National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principal.
This appointment was effective October 15. The district will begin to advertise the position opening this week.
