Wayne County Public Schools

Wayne County Public Schools is proud to announce that we have once again been named a Purple Star School District for the 2025–2026 school year. Even more notably, WCPS has earned the distinction of Legacy District status, recognizing six consecutive years of this achievement.

Accepting the award on behalf of the district were Superintendent, Dr. Whichard; Executive Director for Community Engagement and Student & Family Support, Mr. Derksen; Military Liaison and Communication Specialist, Mrs. Winstead; alongside Seymour Johnson AFB MSG Commander, Col. Okumura; and School Liaison, Mrs. Barnes-Williams. Their presence highlights the strong partnership and shared commitment between our schools and the military community.

This recognition would not be possible without the effort, care, and compassion demonstrated each day across all 33 of our schools. The consistent dedication to supporting military-connected students and families is evident in every building throughout the district.
