The Golden Falcons had 2 doubles teams participating in Fri. and Sat. 3A East Region Men's Tennis Tournament held at Barton College courts in Wilson. The top 16 singles and 16 doubles teams amongst 5 3A Eastern Carolina Conferences were represented here.
First, our #2 doubles team(Beau and West Rogers) lost in a grueling 3-set match to West Carteret in 1st rd. play on Fri. afternoon 6-4,6-7,5-7. They were eliminated but the brothers combo amassed a 14-3 record for the year and were a tremendous stabilizing force in middle of our lineup.
Next, our #1 doubles team and #1 tourney seed(Journey Perry and Nathan Call) won their 1st 2 rds. easily on Fri. afternoon defeating Greenville Rose 6-1, 6-0 then Croatan team 6-0,6-0 in 2nd rd. The Golden Falcons duo then won their semifinal 6-0 in first set this morning before West Carteret opponent had to default in 2nd set due to arm injury. Perry and Call then faced Wilson Fike's #1 doubles team and #2 tourney seed(Collins Pearson and Zach Hill) in a rematch of the Conf. finals 3 wks. ago also at Barton where Aycock prevailed in 3 sets. After the 2 teams split sets, Perry and Call were down 1-3 in 3rd set before battling back to win 5 straight games thus winning the title as 3A East Region champs 6-4,1-6,6-3.
They will now represent the #1 seed out of the East Region and play the #4 seed from Mideast Region(Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Burlington-Fayetteville area) this upcoming Fri. morning, May 10th at 9am in Burlington. Their opponent has yet TBD but draw on NCHSAA should come out this Tues. or Wed. for opponent. Perry and Call are now amongst the top 16 3A HS Men's Doubles teams in NC!
