SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

PURPOSE:  To assist high school seniors and college transfer students who are continuing their education by pursuing a two year or four-year degree in agriculture or a related field and have been active participants in the WCLDA activities and/or Wayne County FFA or 4-H programs.

AWARDS: (1) A $4,000.00 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate enrolling at a senior college or university.  (2) A $2,000.00 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate enrolling in an Associate Degree Program at a Community College or the NCSU Agricultural Institute.

(3) A $2,000.00 scholarship to a student transferring from a community college or other college to a senior college or university.

APPLICANT RULES:

  1. Applicants must be a high school senior or graduate and be a Wayne County resident or non-resident attending a high school in Wayne County.

  1. The entire application form must be completed.

  1. Grade transcripts are required for all applications.

  1. Applicants must provide two letters of reference.  One must be from the school staff, and one must be from a community leader.

  1. Students must have been active participants in WCLDA activities including Wayne Regional Fair activities and/or Wayne County FFA or 4H programs.

  1. Students must be pursuing a degree in agriculture or must be able to relate the degree being pursued to the benefit of agriculture.

  1. Awards will be made through the Financial Aid Office of the college or university.  The funds will be made in One payment.  The funds must be credited directly toward tuition, fees, or books.  Students will need to provide the WCLDA Association with a student ID number once they are accepted into the school of their choice.

  1. Scholarship recipients must enroll and maintain full-time student status and maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.  If either condition is not maintained, scholarship funds will be returned to the WCLDA Scholarship Fund.  However, the funds can be reinstated if the grade point average is attained at the end of the term for which the funds were withheld.

  1. If a student withdraws from college, any refund due will return to the WCLDA Scholarship Fund.

  1. If awarded a scholarship, student must be enrolled in college before one calendar year passes or they forfeit their scholarship.  If a student is awarded a $4,000.00 scholarship and later decides to attend a community college the award will be reduced to $2,000.00. 

  1. The completed application including grade transcripts and reference letters must be returned by January 31, 2026, to:
