Randy MeisenhelderDuring its monthly meeting, the Wayne County Board of Education approved the following principal hire:

Spring Creek High assistant principal, Randy Meisenhelder, was named the principal of Spring Creek Middle. He is replacing Dr. Tammy Keel, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

“Mr. Meisenhelder has a strong understanding of the Spring Creek Community through his various administrative roles,” states Dr. Marc Whichard, WCPS superintendent. “His efforts to engage families, support student and staff success, and build school-culture reflect his impressive leadership qualities. We look forward to supporting his transition and his work ahead to build upon the success that is already in place at Spring Creek Middle.”

Mr. Meisenhelder began his career in education in 2009 as a teacher at North Pitt High School. He transitioned to Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) as a teacher in 2015 and transitioned to school administration in 2019 as a North Carolina Principal Fellow Intern at Northwest Elementary and Norwayne Middle. He served as assistant principal of Belvoir Elementary in Greenville, North Carolina for one year and has served in his current role since 2022. Mr. Meisenhelder holds a bachelor’s degree in middle grades education, a master’s degree in English in Multicultural and Transitional Literatures, and a master’s degree in school administration. It is worth noting that Mr. Meisenhelder has earned the unique distinction of being named WCPS Assistant Principal of the Year for the past two years in a row.

"With more than 30 years of education service as a teacher and school administrator, I would be remiss if I did not thank Dr. Keel for her leadership and dedication to public education," adds Dr. Whichard. "We wish her a well-earned retirement."

Mr. Meisenhelder will begin his new role July 1, 2025.
